Traditional Peacock & Purple Mulberry Silk Saree - This Is An Exclusive GI Of Tamil Nadu
Arni is a town situated in Thiruvannamalai District in Tamil Nadu. Traditionally, Arni silk sarees are called as “Dobby variety”. These sarees are woven with mulberry silk in warp and weft by using dobby. The border has a thin line of Zari and or small designs. Arani Pattu sarees, the word Pattu means silk, which is been called in south India, to weave these silk sarees both pit looms and frame looms are been used. Both men and women are engaged in weaving these silk sarees. These colorful sarees would take around seven days to weave a handloom saree depending on intricate designs, patterns, motifs around a day to complete one saree in powerlooms. Generally these sarees measure around 5.5 to 6.5 meters in length approximately and the blouse is attached to the saree as well. Arani silk has received Intellectual Property Rights Protection or Geographical Indication(GI) status.
