PATAN PATOLA

PATAN PATOLA

Patan Patola, a unique textile weaving art from the area of Patan in the North Gujarat region of western India as acquired the geographical indication (GI) tag. The GI tag will safe guard the originality of Patan Patola, a beautiful double-ikat which is an 800-year-old craft famous for its gorgeous colours, designs and durability. Patan patola which uses vegetable dyes has no reverse side as both the sides have equal intensity of color and design. Weaving of a patola sari on a single loom takes 10-12 months and the motifs of designs are essentially traditional with geometrical, floral, animal and leaf patterns.
