Kandangi is a type of saree made from silk and cotton threads in the Tamil Nadu state of India. It is also known as Chettinadu saree due to its origin place. The saree is woven in different vibrant hues and the artisans used cotton-like fabric. These sarees are designed by incorporating checks/ stripes of vivid colours. The traditional sarees are made in mustard, brick red, earthly reds, oranges, chromes and brown colours. Checks and Temple borders are the traditional patterns of Kandangi Saree. Kandangi Saree received Geographical Indicator tag on 30th of August 2019.
